Here is how you actually create a luxury gym people remember.
Most of a luxury gym should be expected. The last bit is the secret sauce. We call this the 90/10 rule.
Ninety percent of the gym has to be exactly what people expect when they walk into a high end space:
- Dumbbells that go heavy enough (5-75 lbs minimum)
- Cable stacks (dual adjustable pulley/multi-gyms)
- Racks (half rack)
- Cardio with a view
The usual suspects.
If any of that core 90% is missing or underbuilt, that is all they remember. They do not post about the cool feature. They complain that they could not do a basic workout, or the gym was ‘fine’. This is a nightmare comment for me.
The mistake most projects make is trying to reinvent the gym. You get “creative” layouts, odd equipment choices, or concepts that look good on a mood board and are confusing in real life. Confusing is not memorable.
So the sequence is simple:
- Nail the 90 percent everyone expects.
- Then design the last 10 percent as a signature.
That last 10 percent is the one piece nobody else has that still fits how people actually train in your building. It is what makes guests remember the space, keep talking about it, share photos, and leave five star reviews.
Ninety percent expected, ten percent unforgettable.
