Brisbane now has the largest wellness club in the Southern Hemisphere. It cost about $80 million, spans multiple floors, and barely feels like a gym at all. TotalFusion Platinum sits in the Gasworks precinct in Newstead, built to a brief the architects described as an Olympic training facility with the feel of a European spa. That is exactly what walking in feels like. Our team toured it a few weeks ago and has not stopped talking about it since. The locals talk about it like a cult.

What they got right
- The strength floor runs 133 Technogym pieces next to a full Gym80 circuit, the German machines most people never get to touch. 15 power squat racks. A 40-foot custom rig and sled track on both floors. Almost no club runs hardware this deep.
- The roof is the crown. An 82-foot heated magnesium pool with underwater speakers, hot and cold plunges, infrared and traditional saunas, a snow room with real falling snow, cryo, a Himalayan salt room, and a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.
- Recovery is treated as a product, not an upsell tacked onto the weight room. Red light, PEMF, float tank, a private contrast suite, HOCATT, compression. A whole floor built around getting people to come back.
- Seven studios running over 270 classes a week... reformer pilates, hot yoga, cycle, HIIT, functional training, plus an indoor Kilter climbing wall and a high-altitude studio that thins the air on purpose.
- It stopped being just a gym a long time ago. Medi-spa, IV room, physio and allied health, concierge medicine, a 2,150 SF kids’ creche, dog daycare, co-working, a café with a “no seed oils” wellness bar, and a rooftop restaurant.
- The design, by ACME with developer Cavcorp, is built around a five-story “Tree of Life” atrium that doubles as air purification. Bronze mirrors, travertine, copper baths, a sunken lounge with a fireplace, and a rooftop farm with chickens and beehives.
Love & Miss
- Love
- The building is the amenity. Most operators treat the gym as one box on a floor plan, then spend the budget on the address. Total Fusion did the opposite. They went vertical, and made the roof do triple duty as pool deck, farm and bar, which is how you turn a tight urban footprint into a resort. The real lesson is depth. When you give people fitness, recovery, food, medical, work and childcare in one place, you stop being a gym they visit and become the place they route their whole day through. That is what pricing power actually looks like, and it is why members talk about it the way they do.
- Miss
- $80 million AUD, multiple levels, a medi-spa, a creche, a farm and 270 classes a week is a staffing and operations monster, and it is a spectacular one-off, not a template you drop into a 4,000 SF amenity space. And when a club tries to be everything, the risk is always the same. The fundamentals, the floor layout, the equipment spacing, the flow, quietly competing for attention with the snow room. TF is scaling and must be because they have this working really well. I think personally I’d love to see more curation from multiple vendors.
