A multi-discipline fight club anchoring a Jersey City luxury tower, with BJJ and judo flooring, a boxing ring and an MMA cage in a speakeasy back room.

Most fitness amenities are designed to not offend anyone. Neutral equipment. Neutral programming. Neutral identity. CULTR Fight Club is the anchor tenant beneath a luxury residential tower in Jersey City's Historic Downtown and it is the opposite of neutral. Boxing. Kickboxing. Muay Thai. BJJ. MMA. Strength. Yoga. Kids classes. All under one roof. Official BJJ and judo flooring, a custom boxing ring for 1-on-1 sparring, and an MMA cage tucked into a speakeasy back room. This is not an amenity gym. This is a serious training facility that happens to sit underneath people's homes. The goal is to provide all the benefits of fight culture without the black eye and CULTR has found a niche and an insane community.

Official BJJ and judo flooring, a custom boxing ring for 1-on-1 sparring, and an MMA cage in the speakeasy back room. Community events include Slate and Venum brand partnerships, a run club with sauna and cold plunge recovery. The coaching staff are pro fighters and D1 athletes turned coaches.

What they got right

  • The programming stack is genuinely multi-discipline at a boutique quality level. Boxing HIIT, rig class, turf class, adult BJJ, kids brazilian jiu jitsu, yoga...and it all fits.
  • Community events that extend beyond the four walls. Slate and Venum brand partnerships, a run club with sauna and cold plunge recovery. It's intentional brand positioning.
  • The coaching staff is the product. Pro fighters and D1 athletes turned coaches. CULTR's philosophy says it best: you can't be a tour guide of a place you've never been.
  • The building gym is available for residents who want basic fitness access. For those seeking community, connection, and a boutique experience, CULTR is right at their fingertips.

Love & Miss

Love
Shared pain, shared growth, shared identity. When everyone on the floor has chosen to show up and do hard things, the social fabric becomes something you can't replicate with a white-glove lounge and a juice bar. This is belonging through effort and it's the most powerful retention tool in fitness.
Miss
It's so popular it gets crazy in there — which is honestly the best problem a gym can have. Luckily they're expanding into a stunning 13,000 SF space next door. The fight club aesthetic can read as intimidating to the uninitiated, but in my experience the most aggressive-looking gyms have the best camaraderie. People who train in hard environments know it takes courage to walk through the door and stay. That makes your spot in the community that much more valuable. The barrier to entry is the feature, not the bug.
